在阿里和百联的合作中，双方会合力打造融合了线上线下购物体验的实体门店，通过地理定位（geo-location）、面部识别（facial recognition）和以大数据为支撑的客户管理系统（big data-driven customer management systems），为顾客提供更好的服务。同时，双方的支付系统也将进一步融合，百联的门店都可接受支付宝付款，而百联的客户预付费卡也可与支付宝账户绑定，直接用于消费。
包括“新零售”在内，马云认为五大变革将深刻影响各行各业，分别是新零售（new retail）、新制造（new manufacturing）、新金融（new finance）、新技术（new technology）和新能源（new energy）。什么是新制造？过去，制造讲究规模化、标准化，但是，未来30年制造讲究的是智慧化（intelligent）、个性化（individualized）、定制化（customerized）；什么是新金融？未来，新金融必须支持新的八二理论，也就是支持80%的中小企业、个性化企业；什么是新技术？这个说的是：原来的机器吃的是电，以后吃的会是数据；所谓新能源，马云认为，数据是人类第一次自己创造了能源，而且数据越用越值钱。
