besides 用作prep.的用法
1. 除…之外(还有)：
He has another car besides this. 除了这辆车外，他还有一辆。
Mary knows Japanese besides French. 除法语外，玛丽还懂日语。
2. 除…之外(不再有)(用于否定句)：
I care for nothing besides this. 除此之外，我什么也不要。
No one writes to me besides you. 除你之外，没有人给我写信。
He has few friends besides us. 除了我们，他几乎没什么朋友。
【语法说明】
其后除接名词或代词外，还可接动名词或名词性从句：
Besides being a teacher, he was a poet. 除了是位教师外，他还是位诗人。
Besides doing the cooking I look after the garden. 除了做饭之外我还得管园子。

besides，but，except的区别

一、侧重点不同

1、besides着重于指另外还有。

如：No one writes to me besides you.

除你以外，没有人给我写信。

2、but侧重指不包括在内。

如：I want to say nothing but sorry.

我只想说对不起。

3、except侧重于排除在外，从整体里减去。可与but换用，但语气较强。

如：They all went to sleep except me.

除我之外，他们都去睡觉了。

二、一词多义不同

1、besides作介词意思是除 ... 之外。作副词意思是此外；也。

2、but作连词意思是但是。作介词意思是除 ... 以外。作副词意思是仅仅；只。作代词意思是无不。

3、except作介词意思有除了 ... 之外。作连词意思有除非；除了 ... 之外；若不是。作及物动词意思是除；除外。

三、用法不同

1、besides

prep. (介词)

1）besides用作介词的意思是“除…之外”，用在肯定句中指更进一步的拥有，即包括besides后所列的内容在内；用在否定句或疑问句中则指只有besides所包括的内容，即“除…之外(不或没有)”。

2）besides后除可接名词外，还可接动名词，在动词do后还可接不带to的动词不定式。

3）besides同beside的比较：beside只作介词，指“在……的旁边”，“与……相比”，或“与……无关”。besides既可作介词，指“除……之外”，也可作副词，指“也，此外”。

2、but

conj. (连词)

1）but的基本意思相当于in spite of this或表示与所预料的不一样，意为“但是，然而，尽管如此”，不与though,although连用。

2）but可用来表达诸如愤怒、吃惊等强烈的感情，用来加强语气，也可用在表示歉意的句子里，常不译出，还可用于改变话题，意为“无论如何”“反正”“好”。

3）如果but接动词不定式,当前面有do或cannot时，不定式不带to; 当前面有anything, everything, nothing等词时，不定式常不带to,但也有例外；其余情况带to。

3、except

prep. (介词)

1）except用作介词可表示“除…之外”，通常指所排除的事物不在所述范围之内，后面可接名词或代词。

2）except可接反身代词、副词、介词短语或状语从句，也可接(省略to的)动词不定式、动名词、基数词,还可接that或wh-从句。

三者都可以表示“除外”，用法区别如下：
1、 besides 表示一种累加的除外关系，意思是“除了什么之外，还有……”.虽然含有“除了”之意，但是重点是“还有”，所以 besides 后面的名词也是包括其中的。
【例句】Besides hisgirlfriend，his mother also went to see the movie.

1、在否定句中，besides 也表示“除……之外不再有…… ”，与but, except 同义。如：
No one passed the exam besides [except] Jim. 除吉姆外，没一个人通过考试。
2、关于 but 与 except：
(1) 两者都可表示“除……外不再有……”，但含义上略有差别：but侧重指意义的几乎完整性，而 except 则侧重指后面除去的部分。比较：
All are here but one. 除一个人都到了。
All are here except one. 还有一个人没到。
（2） but 一定不能用于句首，except 通常不用于句首：
正：Everyone is tired but (except) me.
正：Everyone but (except) me is tired.
误：But (Except) me, everyone is tired.
4. 关于 except for 与 but for：
except for 主要表示排除，but for 主要表示一种虚拟条件(与虚拟语气连用)。如：
Except for me, everyone passed the exam. 除了我之外，大家都通过了考试。
But for my help, she would not have passed the exam. 若不是我的帮助，她就不会通过考试。
But for the atmosphere plants would die. 如果没有大气，植物就会死亡。
